The 25% efficient N-type cells are as good as portable panels get, so output tracks close to the rating in real sun, and built-in USB-A and USB-C ports mean it charges phones directly with no station in the loop. It's sized correctly for the 500Wh–1.5kWh stations most people own, refilling a 1kWh unit in five to seven hours of good sun. The trade-off versus our top pick is heft — it's noticeably heavier and bulkier folded than the blanket, the classic suitcase-folder penalty. We'd also point CPAP campers and frequent travelers here over the 400W suitcase: half the harvest, but far easier to live with. This is the safe, boring, correct choice, and we mean that as a compliment.

The dollars-per-watt are the best on this list, it folds to a 21×20-inch slab barely an inch thick at just 7.3 lb, and the included basic charge controller lets it charge a 12V battery directly — a trailer or trolling-motor battery — with nothing else to buy. The trade-offs are exactly where you'd expect at the price: the thin fabric backing demands gentler handling than the Renogy folders, there are no kickstands worth the name, and the 1-year warranty is a third of what the all-rounder carries. Treat it kindly and it harvests honestly. For a first panel or a backup-kit panel, it's hard to argue with.
Most panels need a power station as a middleman; the FlexSolar 100W doesn't. Built-in USB-C PD, USB-A quick charge, and DC outputs mean it charges a laptop, phones, and a battery bank straight off the panel — and it can feed a power station through the DC port at the same time. Our rule of thumb is about 200W of panel per 1,000Wh of battery for same-day refills. Real panels deliver 60–75% of their rating across a day of good sun, so a 200W panel harvests roughly 120–150W sustained — call it 800–1,000Wh over a strong solar day. Check your station's solar input cap too: a panel bigger than the cap wastes the difference.
They produce, but expect 10–25% of rated output under heavy overcast and around half in light haze — a 200W panel might give you 30–50W under thick cloud. Panels with good low-light cells (the N-type Renogy units here) hold up better than bargain panels. The practical strategy is to oversize the panel and harvest opportunistically whenever the sun breaks rather than counting on steady output.
Check the IP rating. The FlexSolar 100W is IP67 and genuinely doesn't care; the Renogy 200W folder is IP65 and handles rain showers fine, though connectors should point downward. Budget panels like the DOKIO are splash-resistant at best, and no folding panel's junction box or station-side connections should sit in standing water. In sustained storms we pack panels away — there's nothing to harvest anyway.
MC4 is the weatherproof industry-standard connector used on rooftop solar and most quality folding panels. Its advantage is universality: with the right MC4-to-station adapter cable, a panel works with Jackery, BLUETTI, Anker, EcoFlow, and any future station you buy. Panels with proprietary DC barrel plugs lock you into adapter hunting. When in doubt, buy MC4 panels — that's most of our list.
Angle it. A panel tilted to face the sun directly can harvest 25–40% more than one lying flat, especially outside midsummer and away from the equator. Re-aim it two or three times a day — morning, noon, late afternoon — and you'll noticeably beat a set-and-forget flat placement. This is why we weight kickstand quality heavily: a panel that's easy to aim is a panel that actually gets aimed.
